The whole world has closed to their homes to support the fight against the coronavirus epidemic. As a result of this, there is a huge increase in the use of the internet and hackers are trying to turn the situation into an opportunity. The FBI reported an increase in cybercrime during the outbreak.

Commenting on the cyberattacks, an FBI official said cyberattack notifications had peaked this week since the start of the coronavirus. Speaking at the Aspen Institute, FBI Deputy General Manager Tonya Ugoretz stated that cyber attack reports increased fourfold compared to the months before the outbreak.

“The FBI has an Internet Crime Complaint Center, the IC3, which is our main ingest point. Sadly the IC3 has been incredibly busy over the past few months.” FBI Deputy Assistant Director Tonya Ugoretz said. In addition, Ugoretz said that before the Coronavirus outbreak they received about a thousand complaints per day, but this figure rose to 3-4 thousand after the outbreak.
